A few years ago, wanting to try a different surface than canvas, I painted on oval-shaped pieces of wood and used mixed-media elements of crystal, beads, stamps, and silk leaves to create clocks.

Originally I painted wooden-framed mirrors in a class project with fourth graders, as part of the ArtStart docent program. I brought in a sample mirror that I painted, inspired by the illustrator Chris Van Allsburg. I had some mirrors left over, which became the Four Seasons theme.
