Murals

In 2005, I stretched myself as an artist (literally) and painted some murals. The one most recently completed was for Dr. Henri Gaboriau’s office in Sammamish. He wanted an Egyptian theme to create an oasis-like effect around the existing wall fountain. This mural is located in the Medi-Spa room.

The mermaid mural (shown below) was created for a child’s room. The client wanted an underwater theme for her son’s room last summer and requested a mermaid drawn in the style of illustrator Maurice Sendak.

Egyptian Column
Egyptian mural completed in December 2005 for the Sammamish Center for Facial and Plastic Surgery.

I drew the mermaid directly on the wall in pencil and substituted an octopus for the character of Little Bear. She was able to paint the rest of the image herself, which turned out great. Many people have the creative ability to paint if they are given the right support. Of course it helped that this particular client had studied art!

Prices are negotiable with artist and vary according to wall space, amount of detail, and begin at $400.00. Travel expenses are also a factor. Completion time is dependant on the kind of room access I’m provided. The Egyptian mural took four months from start to finish because I had to work around the Spa business schedule. I use a combination of water-mixable oils & latex, and coat the finished mural with a protective varnish to prevent damage.
