Portraits
|
Portraits are a specialty in the art world and require a specific talent: the ability to capture a likeness. I'm endlessly fascinated by the geometry of the human face. I’ve included some photo source material so you can get an idea of how I represented the subject and where I made changes that I felt were artistically necessary.
In general, I’m not too interested in photorealism (that’s what photographers are for); what I’m after is a likeness of the person’s spirit. I will work from a single image or from multiple images, depending on what I need at the time.

Nefertiti comes to life.

Ideally I would work from life, but when working with children and busy adults, I find it best to take photo images. Sometimes the family will request that I use a favorite photo of theirs, as was the case with "Veronika in black & white".
